Carla Lopes, Nutritionist, PhD, Associate Professor of Epidemiology, University of Porto Medical School (FMUP), Coordinator of the Unit of Nutrition and Lifestyles-DCEPMPH_FMUP; Coordinator of the Epidemiology Master and member of the Scientific Committee of the PhD programme in Public Health - University of Porto Medical School; Vice-president of the Pedagogic Council - University of Porto Medical School; Coordinator of the Research Group on Nutritional Epidemiology and Obesity-Institute of Public Health University of Porto; Research fellow at the Unit of Cardiovascular Research and Development Porto (FCT UI&D 51/94) since 1995; She was member of the Scientific Committee of "Platform against Obesity" - DGS-Ministry of Health (2009-2012). She takes part of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European network programme on DEterminants of DIetary and Physical Activity (DEDIPAC KH).
Her research interests are related with the assessment of food intake and its determinants, namely how early determinants influence later food patterns and obesity. She also is interested in evaluating the relationship between dietary/lifestyle exposures and cardiovascular diseases, including obesity. She was involved in several scientific national and international projects and was principal investigator in 6 of them. She is currently representing the institution's partnership in HabEat project (7th Framework Programme FP7-KBBE-2009-3). She was part of the Pilot-PANEU (EFSA) team that aim to harmonize dietary assessment in Europe and coordinates the implementation of the EU-menu project in Portugal following the EFSA guidelines for the collection of national food consumption data. She have an extensive experienced in conducting dietary, lifestyles and physical activity surveys and cohort studies involving children and adults, and also in constructing and validating dietary questionnaires, specifically the food frequency questionnaire.
